Residential Block Management NOS Consultation

Asset Skills has reviewed the National Occupational Standards (NOS) relevant for those residential block managers working in all 4 Nations of the UK.

National Occupational Standards (NOS) describe full occupational competence and as such they complement but are different from training courses and professional and educational qualifications.

The NOS are for those working at levels 3 and 4.

Level 3 is defined as "performing a broad range of activities in a variety of contexts, most of which are complex and non-routine. Working with considerable responsibility and autonomy, and may have control and guidance of others". It is frequently associated with supervisory or first line management roles.

Level 4 is defined as "the ability to identify and use relevant understanding, methods and skills to address problems that are well defined but complex and non-routine. It includes taking responsibility for overall courses of action as well as exercising autonomy and judgement within fairly broad parameters. It also reflects understanding of different perspectives or approaches within an area of study or work"

The questionnaire is seeking your views on these issue do the draft standards cover the primary functions at each level.  Is the level of competence required in the units appropriate for those working in residential block management at these levels?
