The Sector Skills Council for the places where we live and work

National Occupational Standards Consultation
Local Environmental Services Level 2

Introduction

National Occupational Standards (NOS) have been produced as a result of work done by Asset Skills and a wide range of those engaged in the sector including employers, professional bodies and training providers.

NOS, and the qualifications derived from them, describe full occupational competence. They complement, but are different from training courses, professional and educational qualifications.

The NOS are for those working at Level 2. Level 2 is defined as "the ability to select and use relevant knowledge, ideas, skills and procedures to complete well defined tasks and address straightforward problems. It includes taking responsibility for completing tasks and procedures, exercising autonomy and judgment subject to overall direction or guidance."

At Level 2 the usual number of units for the whole qualification is between 6 and 9 with 2 - 4 being mandatory and the rest optional, often chosen from an extensive list.

This questionnaire is seeking your views on the draft standards in local environmental services at Level 2.
It aims to gather your views on whether the draft standards are appropriate for the sector and if the structure is applicable.

In particular:

  • Do the draft standards cover the primary functions at level 2?
  • Is the level of competence required in the units appropriate for those working in local environmental services at these levels?
  • Do you agree with the proposed qualifications structure and the balance between mandatory and optional units?

The following questionnaire contains titles of the units and links to more details of each unit, which you can view/download below:
