The Sector Skills Council for the places where we live and work

Review of National Occupational Standards and qualifications for the housing sector

Initial Housing NOS Questionnaire

Asset Skills is undertaking a review of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the housing sector. NOS are currently available to underpin qualifications at levels 2, 3 and 4. This project will use the  occupational and functional analysis upon which the NOS are based to ensure full coverage of the functions performed within the sector.

There will also be research into whether there is a requirement for NOS and qualifications at Level 5.

A further project to develop qualification units and structures will then be undertaken based on these NOS to ensure that the qualifications available in the sector meet employer needs.

Project outputs and timelines

The project is expected to produce the following outputs:

  • A full suite of NOS covering functions at levels 2-4
  • Additional qualification units to be included at levels 2-4
  • Rules of combination for these units to provide competency based qualifications (NVQs) at level 2-4 in the Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF)
  • Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) credit and levelling of units
  • Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) structures for SCQF Levels 5-9
  • Assessment guidance for QCF qualifications
  • A feasibility report into the development of Level 5 NOS and qualifications

The project started in April 2011 and is due to end in January 2012.
