Apprenticeships in Scotland

In Scotland there are three specifically designed Modern Apprenticeship frameworks that meet the needs of our employers. Further apprenticeship frameworks are in development.

All the Modern Apprenticeship frameworks are delivered by a range of colleges and private training providers across Scotland. The training provider can access funding from Skills Development Scotland, the Scottish Government's skills agency, that will meet the costs of the training for young people aged 16 - 19 and in some cases for older learners too. Fully funded Modern Apprenticeships can be studied by new or existing staff.

Modern Apprenticeships in Facilities Management

There are two apprenticeship frameworks in Facilities Management. The Facilities Services Apprenticeship is for people who are relatively new to the industry, and the Facilities Management Apprenticeship is for those who are ready to take their first steps into a supervisory role.

Both the apprenticeship frameworks have been designed to demonstrate the breadth and diversity of roles within the FM sector, and both encourage further development towards managerial roles.

Experience has shown that these Apprenticeship frameworks have a wide application beyond those functions that are traditionally considered to be 'Facilities Management'. Apprentices fulfilling handyman, concierge, caretaker, environmental cleaning and janitorial roles have benefited from these frameworks too, demonstrating these posts' links into broader Facilities Management progression routes.

Modern Apprenticeship in Housing

The Modern Apprenticeship in Housing has been designed to support new entrants into housing professions. The framework was designed in consultation with housing associations and local authority housing landlord employers. Staff working in private sector housing organisations, such as letting agents or factors, would also benefit from this Apprenticeship.

This Apprenticeship demonstrates the breadth of housing work and also facilitates learners' consideration of future progression opportunities.
