A new project is being rolled out across local authorities and other public sector organisations to give staff training in customer care and a range of other skills.
It is also available to facilities companies providing services to the public sector on an outsourcing basis.
The Public Service Skills Framework (PSSF) is for workers such as cleaners, porters or caretakers who are in frequent contact with the public, yet receive no formal training in customer service because it's not part of their core job role.
The PSSF is available to employers in England with funding through the Train to Gain programme.
For more on how the scheme has helped support staff at one hospital improve their skills click here.
The PSSF incorporates a learning programme developed by unionlearn called Getting on at Work and a qualification called Skills for Supporting Public Services (SSPS).
Both programmes allow learners to absorb the information and skills they need for work at the pace which is right for them while offering a range of progression routes at the same time.
