New Government legislation is changing the price and design of apprenticeship certificates.

April 2011

From 13 April, Sector Skills Councils will charge £25 for an apprenticeship certificate in England and Wales, part of a requirement of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning (ASCL) Act.

Other changes to the certification process that will affect the way training providers claim for certificates are also expected. At this time, details are incomplete and we await further instructions and guidance from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

In order to ensure we comply with the legislation, Sector Skills Councils such as Asset Skills have not been issuing certificates since close of business on Tuesday 12 April 2011.

The Government is also making changes to the certificate design and certificate claim forms - the requirements for which are laid down in the ASCL Act and which are to be issued by the Alliance of Sector Skills Councils.

We hope that certificate issuing can re-commence by the end of April, subject to new certificates being supplied to SSCs in time.
