The Sector Skills Council for the places where we live and work
May 2009
A National Vocational Qualification in Facilities Management has been approved, marking a significant step towards the development of an apprenticeship in FM.
The Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) was the first awarding body to receive accreditation for the level3 NVQ, which is designed for those performing first line management roles.
Work to fast track the qualification, which will form part of the apprenticeship under development, followed calls by around 10 major FM companies including Interserve, MITIE, Carillion and OCS.
An apprenticeship programme would enable thousands of young people to be taken on in the FM industry.
Last week Apprenticeships Minister Lord Young announced a further £7 million to help companies take on apprentices in the downturn.
