The Sector Skills Council for the places where we live and work
The npower Skills for Life Awards, run by Business in the Community, aim to recognise companies that support their staff in developing essential literacy, language and numeracy skills.
It is estimated nearly 12 million people in the UK workforce lack functional literacy or numeracy. This is thought to cost a typical business with 50 employees £165,000 a year and the UK economy up to £10 billion a year.
If your company is making a positive impact in workplace skills training, please share your story before 6 March 2009. For more details visit www.bitc.org.uk/skills
The Skills for Life Awards are supported by Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, in association with Investors in People.
