The Sector Skills Council for the places where we live and work

Harnessing the talents of your workforce: free events for East of England businesses

A number of events to help encourage employers to take up training and harness the hidden talents of their staff are being planned for the East of England.

Businesses from the property, housing and cleaning industries will hear how best to utilise opportunities for implementing training programmes to maximise productivity from workers.

The events follow an agreement between Asset Skills, a Sector Skills Council, Investors in People and East of England Brokerage.

The Train to Gain seminars will include presentations and round-table discussions and hope to raise awareness within the business community about how crucial training and improved performance can be in winning contracts.

"Train to Gain is a Government initiative that highlights the role skills have in improving competitiveness," says Richard Foxwell, Head of Special Projects at Asset Skills.

"Seminars like this are all about putting local employers in touch with the benefits including funding for training and free staff development"

Research shows 1.3 million people lack the skills to do their job properly. Employers who invest in training are rewarded with improved staff confidence and higher retention rates which save on recruitment costs."

Working with a Train to Gain "broker", local employers will be able to identify skills needs, pinpoint the right training, agree a tailored package, find available funding and review progress to ensure it is doing what the business needs.

There are four events and they are free to employers with five or more staff in the region.
