Why housing?

A job in housing will give you an opportunity to learn plenty of skills. These include communication, team working, ICT and negotiation skills.

There are also opportunities for self-development and many roles in housing will offer you the chance to gain housing qualifications such as the Level 2/Level 3 Certificates and Level 4 Diploma in Housing.

Many staff feel that a career in housing also offers them job security and the chance to work in an environment where there are a variety of different roles available.

You could start your career in housing in a district office with direct contact with housing tenants/applicants or you could work in the community as a support officer helping homeless and vulnerable people find a more stable environment in which to live. You could choose to work in more specialist roles for instance in finance or information technology.

There are also different apprenticeship opportunities, for example in plumbing, joinery, or motor mechanics. Whatever role you see yourself in you will normally find that housing careers have it on offer.
