Qualifications to consider

A BTEC National/BTEC Higher National in Business Administration is a good foundation. This course is available at most of the regional colleges in Northern Ireland.

The Chartered Institute of Housing offers the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Housing
  • CIOB - CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing Maintenance
  • Level 3 Certificate in Housing
  • CIOB - CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing Maintenance

The University of Ulster (Jordanstown) also offer a six month Graduate Foundation course in Housing and the Post Graduate Diploma in Housing. Both of these courses are completed on a part time basis.

If you feel that you need to improve your management and team leadership skills there are courses available through the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). These include Certificate and Diploma qualifications.

If you would like to change the direction of your career you should talk to the personnel department about where you feel you would be best placed in the organisation. They will be able to advise on the opportunities that are available throughout your organisation and put you in contact with people who can give advice. They will also know if there are any opportunities for you to transfer into a new role where you will develop new skills. They can advise about specialist qualifications that are needed to work within certain divisions/departments.

Learning new skills and gaining new qualifications will give you the confidence to take the next step in a satisfying, fulfilling and challenging career.
