The entry level for most jobs in housing is either:

• 5 GCSE's Grades A - C (or equivalent) , including English Language or a mathematically based subject
• NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration

Alternatively the University of Ulster offer a BSc Hons degree in Housing Management at their Jordanstown campus. They also offer a six month Graduate Foundation course in Housing and the Post Graduate Diploma in Housing. Both of these courses are completed on a part time basis.

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is the professional body for people involved in housing and communities. It offers the following housing qualifications:

• Level 2 Certificate in Housing
• CIOB - CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing Maintenance
• Level 3 Certificate in Housing
• CIOB - CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing Maintenance
