	Professional Bodies
	The Chartered Institute of Housing is the professional body for people working in housing and communities.
	The National Housing Federation represents represents 1,200 not-for-profit housing associations in England and campaigns for better housing and neighbourhoods.
	Chartered Institute of Personnel Development. The professional body for those involved in the management and development of people.
	Chartered Management Institute is the only chartered professional body that is dedicated to management and leadership.
	Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. Membership organisation for professionals involved in land, valuation, real estate, construction and environmental issues. RICS operates out of 146 countries to regulate and promote the Chartered Surveyors.
	The Royal Town Planning Institute is a dynamic organisation leading the way in the creation of places that work now and in the future by promoting good planning, shaping policy and raising standards in the profession.
	Government Departments
	Communities and Local Government is the Government department that sets policy on local government, housing, urban regeneration, planning and fire and rescue. They have responsibility for all race equality and community cohesion related issues in England and for building regulations, fire safety and some housing issues in England and Wales. The rest of their work applies only to England.
	Homes and Communities Agency is the national housing and regeneration agency that will brings together responsibility for both the land and the money to deliver new housing, community facilities and infrastructure. The HCA was formed on 1 December 2008 through the transfer of the functions and assets of English Partnerships; the investment functions of the Housing Corporation; a number of delivery programmes from Communities and Local Government and the transfer of the Academy for Sustainable Communities.
	The Tenant Services Authority is the new regulator for affordable housing, with the specific goal to raise the standard of services for tenants.
	Homes and Communities Academy is the skills and expertise arm of the new Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). They improve the skills and knowledge of people who create and maintain communities. Their work strengthens HCA's role to create thriving places and affordable homes.

	Department for Social Development Northern Ireland. Government department responsible for housing in Northern Ireland.
	Northern Ireland Housing Executive. Regional Housing Authority for Northern Ireland.
	Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action. Umbrella body for voluntary and community groups in Northern Ireland.
	Scottish Government. Scottish Executive website for the devolved government for Scotland.
	Communities Scotland. Scottish executive agency responsible for decent housing and strong communities across Scotland.

	Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Charitable foundation that seeks to understand the root causes of social problems, to identify ways of overcoming them, and to show how social needs can be met in practice.
	Octavia Hill (1838-1912) was a woman ahead of her time. An artist and a radical, she was a pioneer of affordable housing and can be seen as the founder of modern social work.
