Asset Skills is the Sector Skills Council for housing, an area already undergoing big changes before the recession.
The economic downturn has impacted on the sector significantly.
There is more pressure for affordable homes and services to help people who are losing their jobs and facing repossession.
Shrinking budgets compound the problem, hitting some of the most vulnerable people in society.
The number of voluntary – or "third sector" - organisations now operating in housing are helping meet these challenges.
The housing workforce is also expected to contend with a number of new environmental regulations and measures that impact on their jobs. These require new knowledge and understanding.
Asset Skills works to identify and address skills shortfalls and ensure the right sort of training is available to all types of housing organisations across the UK.
