Housing

The housing sector is undergoing rapid changes as a result of new social policy and a growing number of people needing homes.

Staff at housing associations have to accommodate these changes. Their work is no longer as straight forward as it once was as it involves multi-tasking across a number of roles.

Asset Skills works with the UK's housing sector to identify shortfalls in skills and to put in place measures to plug the gaps.

It is estimated the housing sector will generate 46,000 new jobs and will need to replace 30-40% of its existing staff over the next decade. Quality recruitment is therefore the biggest issue.

Our Sector Skills Agreement research showed a clear need to improve the skills of many people working in social housing – like estate officers or managers.

The skills employers needs are varied but all have a direct impact on the communities they serve.

Housing employers are tasked with the challenges of delivering regeneration, affordable homes and managing sustainable neighbourhoods.
