The Sector Skills Council for the places where we live and work
This Advanced Apprenticeship is about surveying in the field of property and maintenance. It contains five pathways of specialisation: maintenance, quantity surveying, general practice, building surveying and valuation.
Building surveyors give advice on the design, construction, maintenance or repair of proposed or existing buildings. They spot defects and then work out the feasibility and cost of any repairs or improvements. General practice surveyors are involved in the management, valuation, buying, selling and development of land and property. Quantity surveyors manage all the costs relating to building projects, from first calculations to the final figures. Valuation surveyors assess the condition of a property and decide how much it's worth.
The nature of your learning will depend on your employer's scope of operation. As an apprentice, you'll probably learn health and safety; how to manage your own workload; how to help assess the condition of a property; how to help monitor the maintenance of the property; and how to collect, analyse and present measured survey data. You may have the option to learn other skills like cost control, solving disputes, and building regulations.
After successful completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship, you'll be well placed in a varied profession with excellent prospects.
