Apprenticeship in Cleaning and Support Services case study Cleaning App Case Study image

September 2010

Interserve

A number of cleaners from support services firm Interserve have completed the new cleaning apprenticeship. The company held awards to recognise the achievements of their staff, who were aged between 21 and 60.

A total of 16 people working as cleaning operatives, shift supervisors, shift managers and operations managers took the Apprenticeship in Cleaning and Support Services.

The learners achieved an NVQ level 2 in Cleaning and Support Services, a technical certificate, two adult certificates in numeracy and literacy and a British Institute of Cleaning Sciences award.

Most of the learning happened in the workplace with tutors fitting around the employees' shift patterns. This ensured the training worked well and Interserve has since reported increased productivity and motivation from its workforce.

It says it is another step to helping its workforce improve skills and develop to their full potential. Following the success of the programme, the firm is now expanding the cleaning apprenticeship across its business.
