The Asset Skills UK Academy for Business Services

Prospectus - Introduction

The UK Academy for Business Services was formed following discussions with facilities management employers regarding the issues they face in raising the skills of the workforce. This prospectus incorporates many of the issues raised and proposes solutions which are being delivered through the UK Academy.

The Academy was formally launched as a pilot project on 11 May 2010. Skills Academies exist in other sectors and are recognised as delivery models throughout the education world and by government agencies.

The UK Academy is designed to be a one stop shop for employers wishing to access training, skills development and support. A modest subscription is charged to members; details are provided near the end of the document.

The learning delivered through the UK Academy is sourced through a selected network of further education and private training providers who are committed and able to meet employer expectations.

The network is regularly reviewed to ensure those expectations are matched, and the quality of providers is monitored, particularly following feedback from employers.

The network will, however, remain restricted in numbers to enable providers to gain significant benefit from their membership. We expect that this will be reflected in improved service and flexibility for employers.

UK Academies for Property (in partnership with RICS) and Housing have also been launched in 2011, and there are plans to introduce the concept in the home nations.

If you would like further information about the work of the UK Academy please contact either Steven Proudfoot or Karen Waterlow by email at ukacademy@assetskills.org or call 0844 822 2525.
