Phil Toms MSc FNAEA CIH PhilToms

Chief Executive, Newport Housing Trust Ltd.

Phil is Chief Executive of Newport Housing Trust Ltd. He has considerable experience in the private sector as a principle partner and company director in the land and property field together with over twenty years in social housing development.

Phil has been chair of Asset Skills Cymru for nearly four years and is a member of the advisory board of Welsh Housing Quarterly magazine.

Phil is a founder member of the GENuS Consortium of Housing Associations and a guest lecturer in Housing at University of Wales College Cardiff (UWCC) and University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC).

Roger Goodman RogerGoodman

Corporate Development Director, MITIE

Roger joined the MITIE Group in 1991. Today Roger is the Corporate Development Director and sits on the Executive Board, now a FTSE 250 company with revenues in excess of £1.7bn and over 56,000 employees.

He is a Non-Executive Chairman of Networkers International and serves on the boards of the Business Services Association and Asset Skills.

Sanjeev joined PRUPIM as HR Director in January 1999 from NatWest Life Assurance where he was Head of HR.

He is responsible for the full remit of HR Services at PRUPIM with a primarily strategic corporate focus.

Sanjeev became a PRUPIM board member in April 2001 and in 2004 was appointed as a Board Director of Asset Skills.

Stephen HowlettSteveHowlett

Chief Executive, Peabody

Stephen joined Peabody as Chief Executive in March 2004.

Peabody was established in 1862 by George Peabody, an American businessman and banker to alleviate poverty in London. The mission for the 21st century is to make London a city of opportunity for all by providing for as many people as possible a good home, a real sense of purpose and a strong feeling of belonging.

Peabody has nearly 20,000 homes in the capital and is a major regeneration agency, providing a wide range of projects and programmes to promote training, employment and healthy living.

Stephen is Chair of the g15, the group of London's largest housing associations which collectively house about one in ten Londoners and manage around 410,000 homes.

He is a member of the Residential Committee of the British Property Federation and is one of the Mayor's Leaders for London and Vice-Chair of the Court of the University of Greenwich. He is also a Board member of Asset Skills.

David McCallumDavidMcCullum

Director of Operations, Northern Ireland Co-Ownership Housing Association

David is Director of Operations with the Northern Ireland Co-Ownership Housing Association, a housing association that he helped to set up. His particular interests include housing standards, rural issues and developing the regions' future housing professionals.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing, David has been a Northern Ireland Board Member since its formation and held the position of Vice Chair. In 2008 he was elected Chairman of the Northern Ireland Board and is currently a member of the Institute's UK Council and its UK National Policy Board.

David is also a UK Council member of NHBC, a Council member of the Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations and Northern Ireland Board Member of Asset Skills, chairing the housing group and advising on the skills requirements of the sector.

Steve Davies

Managing Director, Eurest Services 

Steve is Managing Director of Eurest Services, a facilities management company delivering a range of food, hard and soft services to a variety of blue chip Business and Industry clients. Eurest Services is the specialist facilities management division of the world's largest food service and support services company, Compass Group UK & Ireland Plc.

In addition to this position, following the recent acquisition of VSG, he is also an Executive Main Board Director of this company.

Steve has extensive experience within facilities management having worked for Reliance Facilities Management Ltd, the specialist facilities management division of Reliance Security Group; Serco Leisure Ltd, the specialist leisure division of Serco Government Services, part of Serco Group Plc; Cannons Group Plc, the largest leisure Company operating in both the private and public sectors in the UK and an 11 year career in four public sector leisure departments.

Malcolm CannonMalcolmCannon

Chief Executive Officer, Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre

After 10 years in pharmaceuticals and 10 years in Scotch Whisky, Malcolm, a physiology graduate from St Andrews University, became CEO at Hunter Boot, the iconic wellington boot brand before joining Edinburgh Solicitors' Property Centre (ESPC) as CEO in September 2009.

The ESPC is a residential property marketing company representing over 70% of all property sold in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.

Malcolm has been Chairman of Asset Skills Scotland since November 2011 and is also Chairman of SPC Scotland, the body which pulls together all 11 SPCs in Scotland.

Malcolm is a keen rugby player and amateur thespian.

Chief Executive, Cleaning and Support Services Association (CSSA)

Andrew is the Chief Executive of the Cleaning and Support Services Association. He has been involved with trade associations for nearly 20 years.

His career encompasses both working as a government official in Whitehall and Brussels as well as five years in the UK manufacturing sector.

Andrew is passionate about professionalism in the cleaning industry and the role that good training plays in the quality and sustainability of the sector.

Jane Greenoak

Senior Funding and Partnership Adviser, National Housing Federation (NHF)

Jane is responsible for setting up and leading a small team within the federation that supports funding and partnership opportunities for both the organisation itself and for its members.

Housing Associations spend millions of pounds each year on neighbourhood and regeneration work, particularly in relation to employment, learning and skills development, financial inclusion and sustainability initiatives. It is often helpful for them to work with others in the locality when carrying out this work, and to be able to access additional sources of income. The team objectives will be to build relationships and to lever in resources.

Previously Jane was Director of Customer and Corporate Services at the Federation for nine years and prior to that she was Deputy/Acting Chief Executive at the Health Education Authority (HEA), a special health authority that promoted public health.

Jane has been on numerous boards and committees including Asset Skills and was most recently Chair of Housemark a joint venture between the National housing federation (NHF) and Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH). She is currently Chair of 3SC (Third Sector Consortium).

Mark FoxMarkFox

Chief Executive, Business Services Association

Mark has been Chief Executive of the Business Services Association since 2007.

The BSA represents companies providing business and outsourced services in the private and public sectors. They promote the industry and the positive contribution it makes to the economy - driving innovation, training, efficiency, raising professional standards and improving productivity.

Before he worked for BSA Mark worked in business, politics and journalism. He has written for a number of national newspapers, magazines and websites.

He was an inner city primary school governor for eight years.

Mark PowellMarkPowell

Executive Director - Product Development, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)

Mark joined the RICS in April 2009, where he developed and launched RICS Training, providing face-to-face training courses and online learning through the RICS Online Academy. He became Executive Director, Product Development in September 2010.

Mark's role is to provide a range of product and service propositions in support of market and customer needs, to enable RICS to be known as the leading source of training, conferences, information and knowledge for professionals involved in the land, property and built environment markets globally.

Mark is an Asset Skills Board Adviser and a Trustee / Director of Chartered Surveyors Training Trust (CSTT).

Martin Winn BA, MA, PhD, FCIHMartinWinn

Director of Professional Development, Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH)

Martin joined CIH in January 1990 with responsibility for managing changes to the professional qualification and he took up his current post in September 2000. He has overall responsibility for the implementation of CIH education, training and membership strategies.

Martin started his career in teaching in 1978. He was a lecturer in Sociology at Coventry Polytechnic, University of Warwick and Leicester Polytechnic before he moved to the Institute.

He was course leader for the Housing Professional Qualification Course at Leicester Polytechnic and Chief Examiner for the Social Structure and Social Change component of the CIH exams. He achieved his doctorate in 1986 and is well known for his book 'Housing and Social Inequality'.

Martin was chair of Housing Potential UK, the former national training organisation for the housing sector. In this capacity, he helped to establish Asset Skills. He continues as an advisor to the Asset Skills Board.

Nigel WilliamsNigelWilliams

Managing Director, Parking Matters Ltd

In 2008 Nigel founded Parking Matters - a specialist consultancy that provides strategic advice on all matters related to parking to developers, car park owners and investors.

In the course of his 25-year career in the parking sector, Nigel has held the positions of Managing Director of Vinci Park UK and Development Director of Q-Park UK.

He is also a founder and non-executive director of Parking Associates, one of the UK's leading consultancies on the subject of Decriminalised Parking Enforcement.

Nigel was President of the British Parking Association (BPA) in 2005-06 and is a BPA Council Member.

He chairs the Skills and Institute for Parking Professionals Board and sits on the Management Board of the Safer Parking Scheme. Nigel is an elected member of the European Parking Association's Policy and Strategy Committee and an adviser to the Asset Skills Board.


 

Stan AtkinsStanAtkins

Group CEO, British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc)

Stan Atkins joined BICSc in 2007. He has over 35 years of experience in the cleaning industry during which time he has held a variety of different positions including cleaning operative, contractor, client, consultant, supervisor, manager director and customer.

Stan strongly believes in raising the standards in the cleaning industry. He uses his wealth of experience and knowledge to continuously raise standards of education and to build awareness of the cleaning industry through professional standards and accredited training in order to protect the cleaning operative, provide a clean and safe environment, preserve assets, promote sustainability and produce best practice.

He is currently a member of the Cleaning and Support Services Association Sustainability Committee, a member of the British Cleaning Council Finance & Strategy Committee and a board adviser to Asset Skills.

Saleem AkramSaleemAkram

Director, The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)

Saleem Akram is Director of Construction Innovation and Development and Management Board member at the CIOB. He is responsible for Innovation and Research, Management Practices in Construction, Health and Safety, Legal and Contractual and Technical Services and the Faculties of Architecture and Surveying, Building Control and Conservation.

Saleem is also responsible for the judging of the Construction Manager of the Year Awards, the International Innovation and Research Awards and a suite of scholarships.

Saleem is also responsible for the European Affairs and Recognition of Qualifications, in UK, European Union and rest of the world.

Prior to his CIOB service, he has extensive experience of project construction and contracts management on large hydroelectric and thermal power station projects. He successfully completed several multi-million pound and multi-disciplinary projects.

Saleem is married with three children. He holds a Bachelors degree in civil engineering and a postgraduate Masters degree in construction management. He is registered as a Professional Engineer and member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; Association for Project Management; and fellow of the Institution of Engineers and Chartered Institute of Building.
